ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS AT AGE 11+
The Latymer School Edmonton is a Voluntary Aided Grammar School (a selective school) for Boys and Girls aged 11-18. The Governors welcome applications for children of high academic ability. From September 2012 the Governors will offer places to 186 pupils (the standard number under the 1988 Education Act).
Registration forms will be available online from Monday, 23rd May 2016 and must be completed, no later than 4th July 2016. No late admissions will be accepted. Parents living in other Boroughs are advised to check with their own local authority about the advisability of naming Latymer on their local Secondary Schools Application Form.
Only girls and boys who are deemed capable of following an education leading to the higher grades of GCSE in a full range of National Curriculum subjects are eligible to be considered for admission to the school. The Governors will judge whether a candidate fulfils these requirements by reference to tests to be taken at the school. Please note that the first over subscription criteria is children who are looked after.
Rationale for postcode criterion:
- A long journey to and from school may tire pupils and so they are disadvantaged when working on homework or coursework tasks
- Many extra-curricular activities occur after school, finishing at 17.00 or 17.30 hours. During the winter months this would be journeys in darkness
- There are a number of out of hours learning activities (ICT, food hygiene certification) which could also affect school departure time. The postcode criteria is:
Those who live in the following postcode areas: E2, E4, E5, E8, E9, E17 EN1, EN2, EN3, EN4, EN5 Sectors 1, 2, 4, 5, EN8 Sectors 7, 8, 9 N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, N14, N15, N16, N17, N18, N19, N20, N21, N22 CLICK FOR MAP
The School will be over-subscribed if by the deadline for submission of the School Registration Form it receives more than 186 applications from applicants who reside in the Inner Area.
