GTP

Information about GTP Placements

The Graduate Teaching Programme is a route into teaching which suits some.

Theory is delivered by a Higher Education Institution and the majority of the time is learning the craft of teaching “on the job” at a school.  The trainee receives a salary whilst training, as an unqualified teacher.

The way to being accepted as a trainee is:

  • First gain the support of a school for a placement
  • Then gain the support of a Higher Education Institution

The latter hold the training budget; some is retained to deliver the theory, the majority is allocated to the school to reduce the net cost to them of providing the placement.  At Latymer we have GTPs in some subjects only, and the salary is point 1 on the Unqualified teacher scale.

The applicant is not expected to have registered yet with the GTC but this is a requirement of starting the placement.

The applicant should have some experience of working in a school, voluntary work, or in a support role.  There is often experience of working in a different sector of the economy.

All GTPs are employed on point 1 of the unqualified teacher salary scale, £18,789 with effect from 1st September 2010.
