CILIP Carnegie Medal 2018

Six of our Year 8/9 book club members travelled to PGHS on Tuesday 12 June and took part in an inter-schools quiz and social, hosted by Mrs Conlon, librarian. Non Pratt (a PGHS parent and author of Young Adult fiction) acted as quizmaster, and then kept the students entertained by talking about her work, and answering questions, while the quiz answers were marked. Students from different schools were mixed together ON the quiz teams.

The quiz broke the ice, and then there was the opportunity for the young people to chat to other keen readers who have read and enjoyed the selection of books on this year's Carnegie Medal shortlist. http://www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/shadowing.php. We' d like to thank PGHS for hosting such a fun and enjoyable Carnegie finale event.

Back at Latymer, we voted for our choice to win the award: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas with After the Fire by Will Hill and Saint Death by Marcus Sedgwick as our runners-up. The Hate U Give was also our choice for the Amnesty award. We have posted our votes. We look forward to seeing if the "official" judges agree with us when results are announced on Monday 18 June.
