GDPR Information

As you are probably aware, the law on data protection in the UK is changing. The Data Protection Act 2018 applies the Europe-wide General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to the UK.

The new rules are designed to take account of the massive changes in data use since the Data Protection Act 1998. Facebook, smartphones, even Google did not exist at the time these rules were created, so the world has changed, and the law must do so too.

As a school, we have been updating our documents and processes as required to fit the new rules; we are still working to change and review all the various documents and processes, so we will be updating our website and forms during last few months of this academic year.

Most processing in schools is governed by various laws so does not need us to ask you for consent, but this is not always the case. Where we do not have another basis for processing, and have not already asked for a suitable consent, we plan on updating our consent when we ask parents to check and update the information we hold in our annual data collection process ready for September.

The new rules are intended to give you better control and understanding of what we do with your information; they will not in any way interfere with the provision of your child’s education.

If you would like to discuss anything regarding data protection, we would ask you to contact us by email at office@latymer.co.uk

The new rules change the rights that you have in respect of your data. For further information on this, please see the ICO website https://ico.org.uk. The rights are:

  • The right to be informed
  • The right of access
  • The right to rectification
  • The right to erasure
  • The right to restrict processing
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to object
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling.
