Physical Education

Head of Department: Mr King

Department Background

Physical Education and Sport is a great vehicle for learning about yourself, learning about others, and learning about society. Physical activity can be a great release, allowing pupils to go back into the class room and work that bit harder on the things that motivate them. Our aim is for sport to influence every pupil that passes through Latymer in this way, to help shape them as they go on to be successful in sport, or any other area.

We look to promote the following key concepts:-
  1. fitness and health for positive living
  2. social and moral education
  3. skill development "know-how" and "know-what"
  4. expressive and creative development
  5. to prepare for future education and leisure
  6. to promote participation and enjoyment amongst all pupils

The Department has enjoyed a wide range of academic and extra-curricular success over the past 10 years. We have exam classes at both GCSE and AS level and also run a Junior Sports Leaders Course. Outside of the Curriculum we run over 60 different clubs and teams before school, at lunchtime and after school. Block fixtures in rugby and football are also played at on a Saturday morning.
